How To Draw Garfield

Today we will be learning how to draw Garfield. If you follow us, you might remember that I posted a video tutorial on drawing Garfield last year. This tutorial will show you a little bit of a different approach.

Let’s get started!

What you’ll need:

The first step in drawing Garfield, is to draw two large circles which will become his head and body.

We are going to be drawing Garfield laying on his back. So, draw one of his legs curving upward with his foot flat on the ground, as shown in the image on the left.

Garfield’s other leg will be lying flat on the ground. Draw this leg parallel to the floor, tucked behind the other one.

We now need to give Garfield some arms. Draw his right arm bent at an angle, with his elbow resting on the ground. Give him a few fingers to support his head.

Garfield’s other hand won’t really be visible. Only three fingers resting on his belly will be all you can see.

Draw Garfield’s huge oval eyes, which should look almost like they are squished too close together. His eyes should take up the majority of the space on his head.

Right above his eyes, draw two triangles that point forward slightly for ears.

Give Garfield his trademark grin that wraps around the bottom of his eyes.

To finish off Garfield’s face, draw in a few hairs near his ears, and give him a very small nose in the center of his face.

Near the bottom of his eyes, draw a line across each eye to simulate eyelids, with a small circle poking out right beneath.

At this point, Garfield is pretty much complete. All that is left to do is to add in a few squiggly strips around his back and head, and darken in the tips of his ears.

Give him a few dots on his cheeks, and that’s it!
