How to Draw Sonic the Hedgehog

If you’ve been following my blog, you might remember that I posted a video on how to draw Sonic the Hedgehog quite a while ago. It was always on my agenda to make a more comprehensive tutorial, so, here you go!

What you’ll need:

The first step in drawing Sonic, (just like in all of my tutorials), is to break him down into his simplest pieces. So, to begin with, draw a large circle with a circle 1/2 size directly below it.

After you’ve nailed down the first two circles, draw two pencil-thin legs below the bottom circle. At the end of each leg, draw a rounded square that will become Sonic’s socks (think of a marshmallow on a stick). His shoes are simple triangles. One pointing downward, and the other pointing left.

Sonic most definitely wouldn’t be Sonic if he didn’t have his trademark spikes. To create these, draw about 4 large triangles starting at the top of the largest circle, continuing to the bottom of the smallest. These triangles gradually decrease in size, from the largest at the top, to the smallest at the bottom.

Sonic the Hedgehog’s most well-known pose is with arms crossed. You can create these by drawing two arms that are the same width as Sonic’s legs, overlapping each other. His left hand is tucked underneath his right arm, with his right hand on top of his left arm, giving a “thumbs up”.

At this point, you should have a basically complete Sonic. The last step is just to fill in the fine details like erasing all the overlapping lines, adding a stripe to each of his shoes, adding a tail, and drawing in Sonic’s facial features.

After you’ve followed each step, pat yourself on the back, you’ve just drawn Sonic the Hedgehog! Don’t forget to share on Facebook and Twitter! Thanks for reading everyone!
