In my quest to teach the world how to draw every cartoon character there is, today’s tutorial is how to draw a Japanese icon, Pikachu. This is one of the easier characters to draw, as Pikachu isn’t highly decorated, or physically complex. Grab some popcorn and a pencil, and let’s get started!
What you’ll need:
If you follow DrawCentral, then you probably know what the very first step of this tutorial is. Start by drawing the largest pieces that will serve as the foundation to draw the rest of Pikachu on. The two largest parts of his body are a large circle for his head, and an oval of equal size for his midsection.
After you have Pikachu’s head and body mapped out, draw four equal-sized ovals for his arms and legs. For this pose, be sure to draw his left arm pointing upward. At the end of each leg, draw a flat oval that is about 1/2 the size of the oval of his leg to form Pikachu’s feet.
Now that you’ve got Pikachu’s head, arms, legs, and feet mapped out in ovals, the next step is to connect all the basic shapes together. Erase all the overlapping lines that divide all the shapes from each other. The other crucial part to this step is to add a few details like fingers, ears, and toes, as well as adding shape and form to Pikachu’s body and head.
The last step in drawing Pikachu is to fill in the details. Adding eyes, a nose, an open mouth, circles on his cheeks, and black tips to his ears and tail, and you have a complete Pikachu.
